In 2017 election of Birgunj Metropolitan City (Parsa district), candidate Bijaya Kumar Sarawogi of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 19,393 (25.81%) votes out of total votes of 75,134 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ajay Kumar Dwibedi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 17,197 (18.19%) of votes. The rest of 33 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 38,544 (25.65) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Shanta Karki of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 19,607 (27.14%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Pinki Devi Yadav of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 18,530 (20.17%) of votes and came in second position. Other 8 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 34,117 (23.61) of votes.
As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 1,125 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 739 (65.69%) males and 386 (34.31%) females. Moreover, there were total 256 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 32 wards. Same as, total 456 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 203 females and 165 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
