In 2017 election of Bhojpur Municipality (Bhojpur district), candidate Kailash Kumar Ale of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,070 (43.51%) votes out of total votes of 9,355 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ganesh Kumar Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 4,034 (30.05%) of votes. The rest of 7 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,251 (6.69) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Mamita Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,773 (40.92%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Kriti Kumari Karki of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,701 (28.48%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,746 (9.47) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 203 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 122 (60.10%) males and 81 (39.90%) females. Moreover, there were total 39 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 75 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 38 females and 34 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
