In 2017 election of Bedkot Municipality (Kanchanpur district), candidate Ashok Kumar Chand of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,434 (37.59%) votes out of total votes of 17,115 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bhoj Raj Bohara of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 6,074 (25.79%) of votes. The rest of 9 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 4,607 (13.46) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sushila Singh of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 6,865 (40.32%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Tulasi Devi Joshi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,545 (23.21%) of votes and came in second position. Other 7 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,617 (13.56) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 274 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 157 (57.30%) males and 117 (42.70%) females. Moreover, there were total 57 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 10 wards. Same as, total 98 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 49 females and 50 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
