In 2017 election of Bansgadhi Municipality (Bardiya district), candidate Salik Ram Ahdikari of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 8,775 (34.67%) votes out of total votes of 25,312 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Bina Ram Tharu of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 7,822 (22.95%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 8,715 (17.22) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Shushma Chaudhary of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 9,292 (36.91%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Bhogi Bitalu of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 7,347 (21.31%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 8,539 (16.96) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 234 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 140 (59.83%) males and 94 (40.17%) females. Moreover, there were total 48 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 87 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 43 females and 40 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
