In 2017 election of Bangad Kupinde Municipality (Salyan district), candidate Govinda Kumar Pun of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,077 (50.17%) votes out of total votes of 10,119 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Karna Bahadur Budhathoki of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 4,984 (32.80%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 58 (0.29) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Manju Yari of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 4,862 (51.93%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Dipendra Bista of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,455 (31.32%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 46 (0.25) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 188 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 115 (61.17%) males and 73 (38.83%) females. Moreover, there were total 38 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 12 wards. Same as, total 74 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 36 females and 34 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
