In 2017 election of Balephi Rural Municipality (Sindhupalchok district), candidate Kedar Khatri Chhetri of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,231 (34.57%) votes out of total votes of 9,347 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Ganga Bahadur Tamang of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) who secured 3,057 (24.30%) of votes. The rest of 8 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 3,059 (16.36) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Kamala Shrestha (kayastha) of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,367 (37.14%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Durga Nepal of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 2,938 (23.63%) of votes and came in second position. Other 3 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 2,761 (15.23) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 159 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 95 (59.75%) males and 64 (40.25%) females. Moreover, there were total 31 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 56 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 30 females and 27 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
