In 2017 election of Bagmati Rural Municipality (Makwanpur district), candidate Sarkesh Ghalan of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,221 (30.11%) votes out of total votes of 10,699 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Raj Kumar Timilsina of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,086 (22.17%) of votes. The rest of 6 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 4,392 (20.53) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Dhan Maya Syangtan of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,144 (29.51%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Bachhu Gole (khada) of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,140 (22.76%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 4,371 (20.51) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 190 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 116 (61.05%) males and 74 (38.95%) females. Moreover, there were total 37 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 72 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 36 females and 33 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
