Chingad is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Surkhet district, Karnali Province of Nepal. Chingad has total 6 wards, which are scattered across 170 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Chingad Rural Municipality had total population of 17,275.

As of 2011, 1,010 population in Chingad Rural Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 5.85 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 929, which equals to 11.21 percent of total 8,287 males. Same as, 81 females were absent, which equals to 0.90 percent of 8,988 females. At least one member of 698 (23.88 percent) households were absent.

As illustrated in the charts, the ratio of absentee population was 16.10, while male to female absentee population ratio was 11.47. Same as, the household ratio of present vs. absent population was 3.19.

In terms of age, the largest population in Chingad Rural Municipality were between 5 and 9 years of age with total 2,653. Gender wise, there were 1,306 males and 1,347 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 167 population, which consistes of 85 males and 82 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 5 and 9 (2,653), between 10 and 14 (2,476), below 4 (2,289), between 15 and 19 (1,972), between 20 and 24 (1,395) with total population of 10,785. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were between 70 and 74 (167), above 75 (194), between 65 and 69 (304), between 60 and 64 (422), and between 55 and 59 (425) with total population of 1,512. The median age-group of total population falls between 35 and 39 and between 40 and 44 with average population of 837.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 5 and 9 (1,306), between 10 and 14 (1,283), below 4 (1,121), between 15 and 19 (923), and between 20 and 24 (567), with total population of 5,200. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (85), above 75 (101), between 65 and 69 (164),between 55 and 59 (214), and between 60 and 64 (222), with total population of 786. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 5 and 9 (1,347), between 10 and 14 (1,193), below 4 (1,168), between 15 and 19 (1,049), and between 20 and 24 (828), with total population of 5,585. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (82), above 75 (93), between 65 and 69 (140),between 60 and 64 (200), and between 55 and 59 (211), with total population of 726.

The population with age-group 65 to 69 had male to female ratio of 1.17, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 20 to 24 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.68. The age-groups 65 to 69, 60 to 64, 45 to 49, above 75, 10 to 14, 70 to 74, 40 to 44, 55 to 59 had majority of male population while age-groups 5 to 9, below 4, 15 to 19, 35 to 39, 30 to 34, 25 to 29, 20 to 24 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups 50 to 54 had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 53.21 % (9,192 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 42.94 % with total number of 7,418. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 3.85 % with total number of 665. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 46.79 with total number of 8,083

There were 4,272 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 2,289. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 536 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 13,602 in Chingad Rural Municipality with 6,733 (49.50%) of males and 6,869 (50.50%) females. There were total 32 schools. In average, 425 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Chingad Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Chhetri caste with total population of 11,159. There were as little as Sanyasi/Dashnami caste with population of as little as 14 in total. People of several other castes who live in Chingad are Kami, Magar, Damai/Dholi, Sarki, Brahmin - Hill, Thakuri, Gurung, Badi, Sanyasi/Dashnami, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Chingad Rural Municipality are Chhetri (11,159), Kami (2,137), Magar (1,480), Damai/Dholi (691) and Sarki (667) with total population of 16,134, which forms 93.40 percent out of total population of 17,275 in Chingad Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 17,275, there were total 1,015 (5.88%) disabled persons in Chingad Rural Municipality with 523 (51.53%) males and 492 (48.47%) females. The physically disabled persons were 550, while mentally disabled people were 56 and intellectually disabled were 10.

Similarly, there were 162 people who were blind and 129 people were deaf, while 13 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 50 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 45 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 2923 households in Chingad Rural Municipality, there were 1,584 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 9 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 1 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 1,305houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 1,615 houses were mud bonded, 22 houses were cement bonded, 1,102 houses were wood planks bonded, 163 houses were bamboo bonded and 0 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 1,947 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 156 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 774 houses had roof of tile, 7 houses had RCC roofs, 6 houses had roof of woods while 6 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 1,210 out of 2,923 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 245 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 1,451 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Chingad Rural Municipality, there were total 2,235 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 2 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 16 houses had covered well while 114 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (477) and river stream (50), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 2,894 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 0 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 1 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (1), bio-gas (6), fuel electricity (0), etc.

Same as, total 5 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 15, while 802 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.00.

out of 2,923 households in Chingad Rural Municipality, 809 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 2,085 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 1,834, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 1,056.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 394 establishments in Chingad Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 897 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 555 and female engagement of 342 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.28 people engaged with average males are 1.41 and females are 0.87. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.62, which means as many as 1.62 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
