Rupani is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Saptari district, Province No. 2 of Nepal. Rupani has total 6 wards, which are scattered across 56 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Rupani Rural Municipality had total population of 26,387.

As of 2011, 1,163 population in Rupani Rural Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 4.41 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 1,143, which equals to 8.91 percent of total 12,824 males. Same as, 20 females were absent, which equals to 0.15 percent of 13,563 females. At least one member of 982 (19.59 percent) households were absent.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 5 and 9 (1,865), between 10 and 14 (1,705), below 4 (1,454), between 15 and 19 (1,223), and between 35 and 39 (832), with total population of 7,079. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (146), between 70 and 74 (189), between 65 and 69 (297),between 60 and 64 (426), and between 50 and 54 (509), with total population of 1,567. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 5 and 9 (1,849), between 10 and 14 (1,713), below 4 (1,298), between 15 and 19 (1,212), and between 25 and 29 (1,137), with total population of 7,209. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were above 75 (123), between 70 and 74 (165), between 65 and 69 (292),between 55 and 59 (443), and between 60 and 64 (474), with total population of 1,497.

The population with age-group 55 to 59 had male to female ratio of 1.21, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 30 to 34 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.70. The age-groups 55 to 59, above 75, 70 to 74, below 4, 45 to 49, 65 to 69, 5 to 9, 15 to 19 had majority of male population while age-groups 50 to 54, 35 to 39, 60 to 64, 40 to 44, 20 to 24, 25 to 29, 30 to 34 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups 10 to 14 had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 57.95 % (15,291 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 37.46 % with total number of 9,884. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 4.59 % with total number of 1,212. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 42.05 with total number of 11,096

There were 6,679 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 2,752. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 412 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 4,797 in Rupani Rural Municipality with 2,193 (45.72%) of males and 2,604 (54.28%) females. There were total 17 schools. In average, 282 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Rupani Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Yadav caste with total population of 4,998. There were as little as Mali caste with population of as little as 13 in total. People of several other castes who live in Rupani are Khatwe, Tharu, Rajdhob, Teli, Muslim, Musahar, Chamar/Harijan/Ram, Bantar/Sardar, Haluwai, Kalwar, Kathbaniyan, Koiri/Kushwaha, Mallaha, Hajam/Thakur, Dhanuk, Dusadh/Pasawan/Pasi, Magar, Dhobi, Kami, Tamang, Baraee, Badhaee, Chhetri, Dom, Brahmin - Hill, Kayastha, Newar, Punjabi/Shikh, Lohar, Brahmin - Tarai, Kewat, Terai Others, Rajbansi, Rai, Sonar, Rajput, Thakuri, Dhimal, Tatma/Tatwa, Mali, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Rupani Rural Municipality are Yadav (4,998), Khatwe (3,264), Tharu (2,597), Rajdhob (2,503) and Teli (1,738) with total population of 15,100, which forms 57.23 percent out of total population of 26,387 in Rupani Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 26,387, there were total 307 (1.16%) disabled persons in Rupani Rural Municipality with 163 (53.09%) males and 144 (46.91%) females. The physically disabled persons were 121, while mentally disabled people were 22 and intellectually disabled were 10.

Similarly, there were 56 people who were blind and 34 people were deaf, while 5 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 40 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 19 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 5012 households in Rupani Rural Municipality, there were 118 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 980 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 56 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 3,520houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 258 houses were mud bonded, 952 houses were cement bonded, 26 houses were wood planks bonded, 3,728 houses were bamboo bonded and 4 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 2,526 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 1,005 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 995 houses had roof of tile, 418 houses had RCC roofs, 20 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 4,272 out of 5,012 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 407 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 305 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Rupani Rural Municipality, there were total 14 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 4,842 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 6 houses had covered well while 110 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (4) and river stream (0), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 1,889 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 67 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 33 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (2,984), bio-gas (6), fuel electricity (2), etc.

Same as, total 2,526 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 2,420, while 26 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.50.

out of 5,012 households in Rupani Rural Municipality, 988 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 3,977 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Bicycle was used by the maximum households with total users of 3,374, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 2,853.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 552 establishments in Rupani Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 2,081 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 1,336 and female engagement of 745 persons.In every business, there were an average of 3.77 people engaged with average males are 2.42 and females are 1.35. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.79, which means as many as 1.79 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
