Phaktanglung is a Rural Municipality, which is located in Taplejung district, Province No. 1 of Nepal. Phaktanglung has total 7 wards, which are scattered across 1859 square kilometers of geographical area. According to 2011 Census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Phaktanglung Rural Municipality had total population of 12,017.

As of 2011, 686 population in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality were absent from their households, which equals to 5.71 percent of the total population. Absence of males was 598, which equals to 10.17 percent of total 5,880 males. Same as, 88 females were absent, which equals to 1.43 percent of 6,137 females. At least one member of 551 (21.82 percent) households were absent.

In terms of age, the largest population in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality were between 10 and 14 years of age with total 1,650. Gender wise, there were 822 males and 828 females of the same age group. The least populated age group was between 70 and 74 with total 182 population, which consistes of 88 males and 94 females. Top 5 most populated age groups were between 10 and 14 (1,650), between 5 and 9 (1,566), between 15 and 19 (1,530), below 4 (1,238), between 20 and 24 (965) with total population of 6,949. In contrast, bottom 5 least populated age groups were between 70 and 74 (182), between 65 and 69 (246), above 75 (261), between 60 and 64 (351), and between 55 and 59 (351) with total population of 1,391. The median age-group of total population falls between 30 and 34 and between 35 and 39 with average population of 603.

Gender wise, top 5 most age groups male population were between 10 and 14 (822), between 15 and 19 (755), between 5 and 9 (755), below 4 (619), and between 20 and 24 (419), with total population of 3,370. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (88), between 65 and 69 (141), above 75 (154),between 60 and 64 (171), and between 55 and 59 (192), with total population of 746. With regards to female population, top 5 age groups females were between 10 and 14 (828), between 5 and 9 (811), between 15 and 19 (775), below 4 (619), and between 20 and 24 (546), with total population of 3,579. In contrast, bottom 5 least age group male population were between 70 and 74 (94), between 65 and 69 (105), above 75 (107),between 55 and 59 (159), and between 60 and 64 (180), with total population of 645.

The population with age-group above 75 had male to female ratio of 1.44, which states that this age group had maximum males as compared to females. Similarly, age-group 30 to 34 had most female population as compared to male population with male to female ratio of 0.74. The age-groups above 75, 65 to 69, 50 to 54, 55 to 59 had majority of male population while age-groups 10 to 14, 45 to 49, 15 to 19, 60 to 64, 70 to 74, 5 to 9, 35 to 39, 25 to 29, 40 to 44, 20 to 24, 30 to 34 had majority of female population as per male-female ratios. Moreover, age-groups below 4 had eqivalent or almost equal numbers of male and female population with male-female ratios of 1.

There were 57.20 % (6,874 ) of independent population, the working age people between ages of 15 and 64 years. The dependent children, ages below 15 years, were 37.06 % with total number of 4,454. The dependent elderly population, aged 65 and above were 5.73 % with total number of 689. As such, total dependent population including children and elderly people were 42.80 with total number of 5,143

There were 3,006 women of child-bearing age-group of 15 to 49 years. Same as, the todlers or children of 4 years or below were 1,238. The ratio of woman of child-bearing age and the number of todlers state that, approximately 412 children were born per 1,000 women. This number is also roughly used as fertility levels when direct measures of births are not available.

According to Nepal Government records as of 2017, there were total 3,264 in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality with 1,611 (49.36%) of males and 1,653 (50.64%) females. There were total 43 schools. In average, 76 students were studying in each school.

According to 2011 census conducted by Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), Phaktanglung Rural Municipality was inhabitted by mostly the people of Limbu caste with total population of 7,626. There were as little as Undefined Others caste with population of as little as 12 in total. People of several other castes who live in Phaktanglung are Sherpa, Walung, Rai, Chhetri, Tamang, Gurung, Kami, Brahmin - Hill, Sunuwar, Newar, Gharti/Bhujel, Damai/Dholi, Badi, Magar, Undefined Others, etc. Only the population of castes with above 1,000 population are illustrated in the table.

Top five castes of people in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality are Limbu (7,626), Sherpa (1,055), Walung (909), Rai (595) and Chhetri (523) with total population of 10,708, which forms 89.11 percent out of total population of 12,017 in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality.

Out of total population of 12,017, there were total 358 (2.98%) disabled persons in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality with 185 (51.68%) males and 173 (48.32%) females. The physically disabled persons were 133, while mentally disabled people were 20 and intellectually disabled were 13.

Similarly, there were 52 people who were blind and 45 people were deaf, while 6 people were both blind and deaf. Moreover, 29 persons had reported of having speech problems. Total 60 people had multiple disabilities.

Out of total 2525 households in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, there were 2,355 houses that were founded on mud bonded while 8 houses were cement bonded. Same as, 2 households were reported of being founded on RCC piller, 117houses were founded on wood.

With respect to wall of the houses, 2,113 houses were mud bonded, 17 houses were cement bonded, 188 houses were wood planks bonded, 157 houses were bamboo bonded and 5 houses had unbaked bricks on their outer walls.Rest of the houses were reported of having other types of outer wall, while some of them reported nothing of having the outer wall bonding.

There were several types of house roofs reported. Total 1,202 houses were reported of having thatch roofs while 829 houses had galvanized roofs. Similarly, 2 houses had roof of tile, 2 houses had RCC roofs, 280 houses had roof of woods while 0 houses were reported having roof of mud. As per 2011 CBS census, some of the houses had other types of roofs while some didn't report about the roof structure.

With respect to the toilets, 951 out of 2,525 houses didn't report of having a private toilet for their households. Nevertheless, 97 houses were reported of having flush toilet while 1,453 houses reported having ordinary toilets.

In Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, there were total 2,445 houses, which were equiped with piped tap water resources while 0 houses were reported of having tubewell water facilities. Same as, 1 houses had covered well while 16 houses didn't have any cover on their tubewell. Other resources of water facilities were spout water (10) and river stream (16), which were reported of the household's source of water.

With reference to source of fuel, 2,488 households reported their source of fuel as firewood while 11 households had kerosene as their fuel source. The LP gas was used by 0 households as a source of fuel. Moreover, other sources of fuel were cow dung (0), bio-gas (0), fuel electricity (2), etc.

Same as, total 565 households had reported of having electricity as the source of their household's lighting. The households still using kerosene as source of light were 936, while 966 households used solar energy as source of lights. Total 0 households also reported of using bio-gas as a source of light. The ratio of use of electricity as compared to other source of light was 0.22.

out of 2,525 households in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, 637 houses reported of having no any facility in their household while 1,888 households reported of using at least one facility. Households using at least one facility, such as radio, television, internet, etc. have been illustrated in the table below.Radio was used by the maximum households with total users of 1,601, while MobilePhone was the next mostly used facilities with total household users of 1,079.

According to 2018 Economic Census, there are total 539 establishments in Phaktanglung Rural Municipality that are involved in various economic activities. In those establishments, total 1,210 persons are engaged for the economic activities, as a self-employed or an employee, with total male engagement of 689 and female engagement of 521 persons.In every business, there were an average of 2.24 people engaged with average males are 1.28 and females are 0.97. The ratio of male to female engagement in the establishments are 1.32, which means as many as 1.32 males are enagement in the economic activities per female.
