In 2017 election of Sanfebagar Municipality (Achham district), candidate Kul Bahadur Kunwar of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,838 (49.29%) votes out of total votes of 11,845 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Dhwoj Bahadur Kunwar of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,412 (30.61%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 595 (2.51) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Birmala Devi Budthapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 5,984 (50.43%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Rupa Auji of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,265 (29.50%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 617 (2.60) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 198 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 118 (59.60%) males and 80 (40.40%) females. Moreover, there were total 41 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 14 wards. Same as, total 75 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 36 females and 38 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
