In 2017 election of Sayal Rural Municipality (Doti district), candidate Tej Bahadur Dumrel of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,631 (47.73%) votes out of total votes of 5,512 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Dharma Raj Joshi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,312 (28.39%) of votes. The rest of 1 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 569 (5.16) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Bisna Devi Singh of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,724 (50.12%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Purna Maya Thapa of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,258 (27.67%) of votes and came in second position. Other 1 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 453 (4.17) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 88 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 52 (59.09%) males and 36 (40.91%) females. Moreover, there were total 18 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 31 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 16 females and 17 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
