In 2017 election of Shivanath Rural Municipality (Baitadi district), candidate Karna Singh Saud of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,352 (42.32%) votes out of total votes of 5,557 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Bharat Singh Madai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 2,314 (29.26%) of votes. The rest of 2 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 891 (8.02) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Kushma Chand of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,368 (42.82%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Jhapu Devi Mahata of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,108 (26.69%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 1,054 (9.53) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 119 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 73 (61.34%) males and 46 (38.66%) females. Moreover, there were total 24 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 6 wards. Same as, total 46 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 22 females and 19 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
