In 2017 election of Shailyashikhar Municipality (Darchula district), candidate Amar Singh Dhami of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,929 (44.10%) votes out of total votes of 8,909 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ganga Dutta Joshi of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) who secured 3,402 (26.50%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,578 (8.86) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Kumari Rajmati Bam of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,926 (44.66%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Madhavi Kumari Dhami of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,521 (27.69%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 1,343 (7.64) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 164 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 100 (60.98%) males and 64 (39.02%) females. Moreover, there were total 33 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 62 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 29 females and 28 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
