In 2017 election of Mayadevi Rural Municipality (Kapilvastu district), candidate Bajrangi Prasad Kurmi of Snghiy Samajbadi Form Nepal (SanSFN) secured 4,711 (31.90%) votes out of total votes of 14,769 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Baliuddin Musalman of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 3,352 (17.21%) of votes. The rest of 12 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 6,706 (22.70) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Geeta Tiwari of Naya Shakti Party Nepal (NSPN) secured 4,133 (29.86%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Sabitri Devi Yadav of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 2,841 (15.81%) of votes and came in second position. Other 6 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 6,868 (24.81) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 286 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 182 (63.64%) males and 104 (36.36%) females. Moreover, there were total 65 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 102 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 48 females and 49 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
