In 2017 election of Rainas Municipality (Lamjung district), candidate Singh Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 4,257 (49.67%) votes out of total votes of 8,571 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Ganesh Prasad Chiluwal of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 4,082 (31.82%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 232 (1.35) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Dhan Kumari Gurung of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 4,100 (51.59%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Pushparaj Khanal of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 3,847 (31.93%) of votes and came in second position.
