In 2017 election of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality (Bhaktapur district), candidate Madan Sundar (jugulu) Shrestha of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 14,000 (52.32%) votes out of total votes of 26,760 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Asta Kumar Kawe of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 10,846 (26.61%) of votes. The rest of 12 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 1,914 (3.58) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Anjana Devi Madhikarmi of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 10,678 (46.30%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Kedar Khadka of Nepal Majdoor Kissan Party (NMKP) secured 8,157 (24.18%) of votes and came in second position. Other 4 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 4,226 (9.16) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 200 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 136 (68.00%) males and 64 (32.00%) females. Moreover, there were total 52 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 9 wards. Same as, total 78 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 34 females and 16 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
