Barhathwa Municipality (Sarlahi) Election Results 2017
In 2017 election of Barhathwa Municipality (Sarlahi district), candidate Devananda Mahato of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 7,308 (31.12%) votes out of total votes of 23,487 and was elected as a Mayor. The first runner-up candidate was Niranjan Prasad Das of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 5,027 (16.32%) of votes. The rest of 20 candidates for the position of Mayor secured combined 11,152 (23.74) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Deputy Mayor, candidate Sita Devi Majhi of Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) (CPN (M)) secured 6,499 (28.65%) and was elected as a Deputy Mayor, while Yasodha Devi Niraula of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 5,390 (18.47%) of votes and came in second position. Other 5 candidates who contested for Deputy Mayor secured combined 10,799 (23.80) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 533 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 323 (60.60%) males and 210 (39.40%) females. Moreover, there were total 114 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 18 wards. Same as, total 193 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 101 females and 96 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
