In 2017 election of Molung Rural Municipality (Okhaldhunga district), candidate Mani Raj Rai of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 3,012 (43.30%) votes out of total votes of 6,956 and was elected as a Chairman. The first runner-up candidate was Mahendra Bahadur Karki of Nepali Congress Party (NC) who secured 2,986 (29.96%) of votes. The rest of 4 candidates for the position of Chairman secured combined 958 (6.89) of votes.
Similarly, for the position of Vice-Chairman, candidate Hem Kumari Tamang of Nepali Congress Party (NC) secured 3,258 (47.51%) and was elected as a Vice-Chairman, while Hem Kumari Dhamala of Nepal Communist Party (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN (UML)) secured 2,752 (27.20%) of votes and came in second position. Other 2 candidates who contested for Vice-Chairman secured combined 848 (6.18) of votes.

As illustrated in the pie chart, there were total 133 candidates contested in various positions with gender ratio of 79 (59.40%) males and 54 (40.60%) females. Moreover, there were total 28 candidates contested for ward chairman positions in 8 wards. Same as, total 48 candidates had contested for ward member positions while 25 females and 22 females from depressed group (dalit) had contested for female member position in each ward.
